Immanuel Church Council Meeting

March 14th, 2023

Present:  Alan & Leann Swanson, Barb Swenson, Dale Knuth, Lynne Swanson, Sheryl Krohn, Becky Helmers, Brandi Fredericksen, Krissy Helmers

LCMC zoom meeting with Randy Freund (full time coordinator for Augustana District) started us with prayer.  Randy has agreed to be our guide for the call committee.  He stressed that 6 months would be really quick for finding and calling a new pastor.  Lynne has a Call Packet of 38 pages for us to familiarize ourselves with.

First:  Develop a Congregational Profile (can be done on the Augustana District Website)

Start with a 10 question survey to discover what members are looking for in a pastor.  Our needs in a pastor will be revealed by our weak areas because we want to fill those need areas with a pastor strong in those areas.  We need to identify our strong areas.

1 page of dos and don'ts.

Develop a vision and what we need to make that happen.  We name the vision.  The Pastor's job is to help meet that vision.

The Call Committee must maintain confidentiality about candidates.  Each member of the Call Committee must be absolutely honest in voicing any issues/concerns regarding the candidate.  The Call Committee must be unanimous.

Avoid ditches:  1. Settle, good enough.  Want excellence!

                                2. Wait too long. (Got to be someone better?)                    There is only one Christ.

LCMC asks that a pastor subscribe to the LCMC statement of faith.

Check the interim list for someone available.  End of zoom.
